How to Refer a Nevada Voc Rehab File, and What to Send With It

The five documents that let a counselor start work the day the referral lands, and what happens when one of them is missing.

Reception desk where referrals arrive

A vocational referral is only as fast as the file that arrives with it. Most of the delay we see on Nevada claims is not counselor capacity. It is a referral that landed without the one document the next step depends on, and a week spent chasing it.

Send these five things

With these in hand, a counselor can schedule the initial interview and begin the written assessment immediately.

  • Current permanent restrictions from the treating or examining physician, signed and dated. Not a summary, the actual report.
  • The claim number, date of injury and body part(s) accepted. Denied body parts matter as much as accepted ones.
  • Wage information sufficient to establish the average monthly wage. The retraining goal is measured against it.
  • Claimant contact information, including a working phone number and preferred language.
  • The name and direct line of the adjuster who owns the file, plus defense counsel if the claim is in litigation.

What happens after you send it

Referrals are reviewed promptly and assigned to a named counselor you can contact directly. You receive that name and their direct email in the acknowledgment, so there is one person to call for the life of the file.

If the restrictions are missing or stale, we say so in the acknowledgment rather than beginning work that will have to be redone. A vocational assessment written against outdated restrictions is a liability at hearing, not an asset.

Where referrals stall

Restrictions that are not really permanent. If the physician has written temporary restrictions pending further treatment, a vocational assessment is premature. We will tell you that before spending your money on it.

Language. A large share of the Las Vegas hospitality and construction workforce is monolingual Spanish speaking. A counselor who needs an interpreter adds cost and adds a layer between the claimant and the record. Every one of our staff works in English and Spanish, so this never becomes a scheduling problem.

Unclear eligibility posture. If there is a dispute about whether the claimant is eligible under NRS 616C.590, tell us at referral. The assessment is written differently when it is going to be read by a hearing officer.

Three ways to send a file

Use whichever is easiest for your workflow. The online client form is the fastest, and it lets you attach the restrictions and wage documents in the same submission rather than following up by email.

This page describes our intake process. It is general information about Nevada workers' compensation practice, not legal advice.
